The City of Ottawa has received the "StormReady" declaration from the National Weather Service. StormReady communities such as Ottawa are better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of severe weather through advanced planning, education and awareness. No community is storm proof, but StormReady can help communities save lives. The Ottawa Police Department spearheaded the pursuit of this declaration for the City of Ottawa and worked very hard to attain it.
In addition to the safety requirements met in order to attain the StormReady declaration, The Ottawa Police Department, in an attempt to provide citizens of the City of Ottawa with the highest level of safety and security through the early notification of a pending crises and/or viable threats to the City and its residents, has researched and secured the services of an emergency notification system provided by Global Connect Strategic Voice Messaging.
Using this system, messages containing valuable information can be transmitted to thousands of residents in a matter of minutes via land-line telephone, cellular telephone, email and text messages, and/or faxes. Although a database of local land-line telephone numbers has been obtained from the telephone company, we are very aware that many Ottawa residents rely on their cellular telephones as the main form of communication. However, these numbers are not readily available for us to import into the system.
If you would like the ability to receive notifications via your cellular telephone about pending crises or other threats to the City or its residents, please complete and submit this form to input your number into the system.
