The City of Ottawa Fire Department is currently accepting applications for firefighter. PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 19, 2010 FIREFIGHTER APPLICANTS City of Ottawa, Illinois The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is accepting applications to establish a Firefighter Eligibility Register. Applicants must be 21 years of age and must not have reached their 35th birthday as of June 18, 2010, have a high school diploma or G.E.D., possess a valid drivers license, be in excellent physical health, and be of good moral character. Starting salary for this position effective May 1, 2010 is $39,520.00. All applicants for a position with the fire department shall possess a valid EMT-B license issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health (“IDPH”) on the final date for submission of applications to the Board. Applicants must submit a copy of the valid license and any other proof required by the Board. Any license under suspension or review by the IDPH at the time of the close of applications shall be deemed to be an invalid license. Applicants must be a United States citizen. Residency within 15 months of employment must be maintained in the City or within five (5) miles of any unincorporated area of Ottawa City limits. Applicants must present a valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) with the completed applications. Please contact the Fire Chief or Deputy Fire Chief at the Ottawa Fire Department with any inquiries regarding this requirement. Application packets may be picked up at the Ottawa Fire Department at 301 W. Lafayette Street, Ottawa, Illinois or can be downloaded online at http://www.ottawapoliceandfire.com/fire/1firehome.htm. Complete application packets must be returned to Fire and Police Commission, Ottawa City Hall, 301 West Madison Street, Ottawa, Illinois no later than 4:00 p.m. on June 18, 2010 in a sealed envelope that contains full name, complete address and telephone number on the outside. No applications will be accepted after this date and time. The Board will begin the testing process with a MANDATORY Orientation on June 23, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. FAILURE TO ATTEND THIS ORIENTATION WILL PREVENT FURTHER APPLICATION. The written test will be on June 26, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. All of the above testing will be at the at Ottawa City Hall, Ottawa, Illinois.
